Glenwood and Starbuck are the two towns on the shore of Lake Minnewaska.  Last September, when we drove through Starbuck, I was surprised to see that some of the downtown shops were still flying the Norwegian Flag.

Us Scandinavian kids grew up eating the Norwegian staple Lefse (lef as in left and sa).  Dianne and I made it until recent times.  It looks like this:


I love the stuff.  Just add butter and sugar.  Wow.  My great-great-grandfather Tov Østensen dictated the story of the voyage to America from Norway.  He described lefse was a primary food for the voyage.

Well, let's get back to Starbuck.  Starbuck is the home of the World's Largest Lefse. 


When they cooked it up in 1983 it was 9 feet long and weighed 75 pounds.


People driving through Starbuck are generally not looking for the world's largest lefse.  They are in search of Lake Wobegon, the topic of the next blog section.
